03/14/2009 - Montreal, QC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Martin Brodeur is now tied with Patrick Roy for the most wins in NHL history as his 22-save performance led the New Jersey Devils to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.
The win came in his native hometown as the 36-year-old Brodeur notched the 551st win of his stellar career to tie Roy, who tallied the bulk of his wins with the Habs and was in attendance for the game.
"I feel great, I'm definitely happy it's over with," said Brodeur. "Coming into Montreal it was hectic with family and press conferences and all."
In addition to the win record, Brodeur is sitting on 100 shutouts and is just three away from tying Terry Sawchuk in that category.
He will have his first shot at the wins record on Tuesday when the Devils host the Blackhawks.
"Hockey is all about winning," said Brodeur. "You jump on to the ice as a group and the record says a lot about the guys I've played with and the organization I've been a part of."
Brian Rolston and Jamie Langenbrunner each lit the lamp for the Devils, who have won seven of their last eight games since Brodeur returned to play on February 26 after sitting out since early November due to shoulder surgery.
Patrik Elias tallied a goal and an assist to give him 701 points in his career, tying John MacLean for first place all-time in Devils franchise history.
Tomas Plekanec scored the lone goal while Jaroslav Halak made 45 saves in the loss for the Canadiens, who have dropped four of their last six games.
New Jersey got on the board at the 5:27 mark of the first period courtesy of a 5-on-3 power play. A right circle faceoff win saw the puck find its way back to the right point where Elias slapped the puck cleanly past Halak.
The Devils made it a 2-0 game with another power-play goal. A dump-in attempt by Niclas Havelid was knocked down, but the puck bounced off the left boards and Rolston blasted it past a surprised Halak.
Montreal, though, got one back at the 12:29 mark of the first as a turnaround shot from Plekanec near the right boards got past Brodeur to make it a 2-1 game.
The middle stanza passed scoreless, but there were plenty of shots on net as Brodeur had to make 11 saves while Halak was peppered with 18 shots, all of which he turned aside.
The Habs were awarded an early power play in the third when Bryce Salvador flipped the puck over the glass after the whistle, which cost him a delay of game call, but Brodeur stood tall and made a couple of nice stops during the man advantage.
The Devils gave themselves and Brodeur some insurance when Travis Zajac threw a pass from the low left boards to the left circle where Langenbrunner one- timed it over the glove of Halak with 7:03 to play.
In all, New Jersey limited Montreal's chances in the third period as the Habs managed just five shots on net, all of which Brodeur turned aside to take his place in history as his teammates flooded the ice and the fans gave him a standing ovation.

Many fans thought it was the best side in the nation by the end of last season. This year, the polls have built on Georgia's momentum and granted it the No. 1 preseason ranking, followed by Ohio State and USC. (The Associated Press has the Buckeyes at No. 2; USA Today took the Trojans.)
"To have people believing we have one of the best teams in the nation going into this thing, it's exciting for us," Bulldogs coach Mark Richt told the AP. "I don't think anything is guaranteed, but we certainly have put ourselves in position where at least the college football world thinks we're pretty good."
Georgia Bulldogs - 9.5 wins
There's no question they're good, but the Bulldogs have one of the toughest 12-game schedules in the nation, mostly because they play in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference. Away games at No. 15 Arizona State, No. 7 LSU and No. 10 Auburn loom large, with contests between the hedges versus No. 24 Alabama and No. 18 Tennessee as well as the World's Largest Cocktail Party in Jacksonville versus No.5 Florida.
Ohio State Buckeyes - 10 wins
Like the Bulldogs, the Buckeyes also have a number of tough road contests in 2008. After two scrimmages dressed up as real games versus Youngstown State and Ohio, it's off to face USC. Other tough away games include No.13 Wisconsin in October and No. 20 Illinois in November. Granted, it should be pretty easy sledding at the Horseshoe. In fact, the only ranked team that travels to Columbus is No. 22 Penn State, in October.
USC Trojans - 10.5 wins
A similarly light schedule awaits the Trojans of Southern California, which is why the oddsmakers' total is one win more and the over is currently commanding -150 odds. Pete Carroll's troops only play three ranked teams in 2008, and all of those games are at home. After what should be an easy trip to Virginia to start things off on Aug. 30, the Trojans get two weeks to prepare for Ohio State in Los Angeles. Their two other ranked opponents, No. 21 Oregon and No. 15 Arizona State, visit in consecutive weeks to start the month of October. After that, the competition eases up. Of course, this is the same highly-touted school that lost to Stanford in 2007 and Oregon State in 2006. And don't discount the fact that USC plays its biggest rivals, Notre Dame and UCLA, back-to-back to close out the regular season. On paper, the Trojans are far superior, but motivation will be high for the Irish and Bruins, especially if their historic foes are in national-title contention.
Odds to Win the Heisman Trophy
Tim Tebow, Florida - 7/2
He won it last year, so it's no surprise he's the favorite to do it again, making him just the second player to go back-to-back. Ohio State's Archie Griffin turned the trick in 1974 and 1975, and Tebow's coach, Urban Meyer, is pretty sure his star quarterback can match the Buckeyes legend.
"There has never been anyone quite like him," Meyer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I am very lucky to be his coach."
Chris Wells, Ohio State - 5/1
The man they call "Beanie" was a star recruit out of high school, so it's not like nobody knew who the star tailback was before he rushed for 576 yards as a freshman in 2006 and 1,609 as a sophomore. But perhaps his finest moment came last year versus Michigan when he rumbled for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the Buckeyes' 14-3 victory over the hated Wolverines.
Knowshon Moreno, Georgia - 8/1
If the Bulldogs are to live up to expectations, they'll need a huge effort from their sophomore running back. This might be the last year of college ball for Moreno, who rushed for 1,334 yards and for 14 touchdowns as a freshman, while adding 253 receiving yards on 20 receptions, so expect big things for the man from Belford, N.J.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets
With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
